The landmark focus on food, agriculture, and water at COP28 in December 2023 marked a watershed moment for global food systems, securing commitments from 150 countries and over $7.1 billion in capital—including $2.2 billion dedicated specifically to regenerative agriculture. Despite this surge in momentum and private sector pledges to transform 160 million hectares of land by 2030, a significant “understanding gap” persists among key financial actors, many of whom remain sidelined by uncertainty regarding how to effectively deploy capital. This report addresses that gap by serving as a strategic compendium of innovative financing instruments and structures, specifically tailored for institutional investors, development finance institutions, and asset managers. By synthesizing insights from over 40 practitioner interviews and reorganizing public data through a financial lens, the report highlights scalable investment models across diverse jurisdictions to bridge the distance between high-level climate pledges and the practical mobilization of capital for a resilient, regenerative future.
